setxkbmap -layout us -variant intl 

and then dead keys will not be reported.

Seems to be because of:
https://hg.libsdl.org/SDL/file/2c13b7ca1997/src/video/x11/SDL_x11events.c#l682

Any chance support for XIM IME can be added?
