...it hasn't been maintained for years, and no one has noticed for about that long that the 1.2 branch's audio target fails to compile.

There are OS4 and MorphOS ports that obsolete this code, too, according to the URL in README.AmigaOS:

Fixed in svn revision #2891 and #2892 for 1.2 branch, and svn revision #2893 for 1.3 branch.
