Description Ozkan Sezer 2011-02-13 00:13:04 UTC
Run into this while testing SDL1.3 with hexen2 (uhexen2.sf.net):
$ SDL_AUDIODRIVER=pulseaudio ./glhexen2 -sndsdl
E: context.c: Assertion 'name' failed at pulse/context.c:114, function pa_context_new(). Aborting.
Aborted
$

This is on fedora9 (yeah, I know, old) with pulseaudio 0.9.10 as shipped by fedora. uhexen2 source is for SDL-1.2 and is using the compatibility functions of SDL.

This is probably related to the fix for bug 1011

Ryan, can you look at this for the SDL 2.0 release?

(Sorry if you get a lot of copies of this email, we're touching dozens of bug reports right now.)

Tagging a bunch of bugs as target-2.0.0, Priority 1.

This means we're in the final stretch for an official SDL 2.0.0 release! These are the bugs we really want to fix before shipping if humanly possible.

That being said, we don't promise to fix them because of this tag, we just want to make sure we don't forget to deal with them before we bless a final 2.0.0 release, and generally be organized about what we're aiming to ship.

Hopefully you'll hear more about this bug soon. If you have more information (including "this got fixed at some point, nevermind"), we would love to have you come add more information to the bug report when you have a moment.

Thanks!

Here's the assert:

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/tree/src/pulse/context.c?id=v0.9.10#n114

Here's where they started allowing NULL:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/commit/src/pulse/context.c?id=c0fb91db545774ec45f208a6f771c22a0b153637

...which means PulseAudio 0.9.15 (released 2009-04-13) is the first that has the fix.

Fortunately, there's a pa_get_library_version() function to get the version of libpulse at runtime.

Fixed in http://hg.libsdl.org/SDL/rev/adb619b0af9c
