Bug 686

Summary: SDL_SYSWMEVENT messages cannot be handled by an event filter
Product: SDL Reporter: maf6
Component: eventsAssignee: Sam Lantinga <slouken>
Status: RESOLVED WONTFIX QA Contact: Sam Lantinga <slouken>
Severity: normal
Priority: P2 Keywords: target-1.2.14
Version: 1.2.13
Hardware: x86
OS: Windows Vista

Description maf6 2009-01-21 20:01:36 UTC
I call SDL_SetEventFilter in order to observe and suppress an event. When I see SDL_SYSWMEVENT events, the return value from SDL_PrivateSysWMEvent is ignored and DefWindowProc is called anyway. I would have expected that returning 0 from my filter would have prevented the windows message from being sent to DefWindowProc.

This happens with both the windibs and directx video drivers.

Tagging this bug with "target-1.2.14" so we can try to resolve it for SDL 1.2.14.

Please note that we may choose to resolve it as WONTFIX. This tag is largely so we have a comprehensive wishlist of bugs to examine for 1.2.14 (and so we can close bugs that we'll never fix, rather than have them live forever in Bugzilla).

I'm really hesitant to change this behavior at this point. It might break programs in completely unexpected ways.
